These pictures are of Ann "Ma" McNulty's little Baldoni Bartoli accordion.
The McNulty Family were the hottest
Irish act in the NY City area, and up and down the east coast from the 1930's
thru the 1950's. They recorded 155
sides which appeared on 3 labels. In the early 1940's they had 2 weekly radio
shows and wrote a weekly column
for the Irish Advocate newspaper. This was in addition to their performances
at venues which ranged from Church
fund raisers to the Brooklyn Academy to Carnegie Hall. Their main venue were
the 5 Leitrim Houses, which they
played several times a week. Ma McNulty played the button accordion while her
son & daughter, Peter & Eileen,
sang, danced, and acted. Ma had 5 accordions, one of which is the Baldoni pictured
below:
